i am not sure how i lucked out, but i finally got my copy of Laurie Wisbrun “Mastering the Art of Fabric Printing & Design”

published by chronicle books.  i wasn’t sure if my design would make the final cut, but luckily i get a lil’ shout out on page

27!  this book has loads of information about current designers, techniques, and a step by step method to give any designer

solid insights and inspiration.  as soon as i opened it, i sat and literally “slurped” like a crazy nut all the information in this

book from cover to cover. so i would highly recommend this book to anyone already established in the field, or those of us

who are fresh off the bus just trying to get their feet wet.

i realize there are weeks between some of my posts, sorry about that, but to let you know that my days are

definitely NOT idle…here is a sneak peak at a large painting/drawing i am working on. YEAH!  some days

i am crazy obsessed with designing fabric, and some days i just don’t want to get on the computer and become

stiff  bones with illustrator brain.

therefore…painting and drawing is a perfect counter pastime, and fulfills in such a different way. enjoy, and

i hope your day is bright.

since this is a day devoted to the heart…i thought i would give you a small preview of a new, very “lovely” design

i have been working on.  for me, this one has been a crash course in how to use “illustrator”…which originally

i thought “how different could it be from photoshop?” well, after many hours of frustrating mistakes…and a huge

pain in my rhomboid (ugh) i have no illusions about similarities any more.  its like learning a new language.

though its been tough, its also been rewarding to find the benefits and uses of both applications.

hope everyones heart is happy in “self love” or “relationship love“.

drawing can be so engrossing.  especially when you work on that something for 5 + hours

at a time.  it makes me understand something in a completely different way.  it makes me

sit down and listen to subtlety and nuance…it grants intimacy with that object. my brain

understands things better after i have drawn them. curious. always glad to have time for this.

honor…i mean number one on this oh so amazing list of designers!  it came as a total surprise…a fellow spoonflower

friend shared the post with me, and it sincerely made my day…and continues, still.  thanks to everyone who has

supported this crazy detour in my career. i am excited for what this year will bring!

first…. a bed of arugula + and then, some warm basmati rice + add in, two eggs scrambled + asiago freshly shaved

+ sprinkle salt + and add cracked pepper + last, drizzle a little olive oil to taste.  add a cup of your favorite tea and its perfection

and bliss in your mouth!  your breakfast awaits…

i thought i was growing his bangs out, but if you have ever been through that process with a child (and a boy no less), there comes a moment

when you have had enough.  enough of the headbands, hats, bobby pins, elastic, and the inevitable beginnings of dreadlocks… you wonder if

you should subject your 3 year old to such desires.

well, it was quite shocking the difference hair makes on someone.  he looks older and taller, and i am still getting use to him looking more like

a real boy

six new designs in my spoonflower shop….and a new collection entitled “ravenna”.  excited about the coloring and

designs for this new collection.

today, i am totally re-inspired by fabric thanks to Aboubakar Fofana.  Aboubakar expresses his passion through the color INDIGO, and the

many different hues that can be reached in his process.  His textiles are breathtaking, sensual, and contemporary….and purely magical.

Aboubakar comes from Mali but lives and works from the UK.  He also spent 20 years studying and developing dyeing techniques in Japan

and France.

creative food.  their blog is worth checking out, its almost edible itself.
